Klean Isolate

When it comes to protein powders, it seems we need a GPS to navigate the seemingly unlimited options.  How do you choose? Well, you’re in it for the protein, so pick one with nothing added.  Additionally, go for minimal grams of carbohydrates and fat. Klean Isolate is a great choice because the only ingredient is Whey Protein Isolate.

Let’s break down our love for it a little more.

  • It’s whey: Whey has one of the highest amounts of the amino acid leucine, which is essentially the rate-limiting amino when it comes to muscle building and repair. Plus, whey protein is easy to digest, absorb, and be used by the body.
  • It’s an isolate: Isolates contain a higher percentage of protein than concentrates (approximately 90% versus 80% pure protein) and are generally lactose free.
  • It’s NSF Certified: It has gone through stringent testing to ensure purity.

When should you use whey protein? Before bed every night. One scoop not only helps to shorten your overnight fast, but it also provides the branch chain amino acids needed during the prime time your body builds and repairs muscle.  That’s right, it’s at night that most growth hormones are released, take advantage!  Likewise, adding it to your post-strength workout will ensure adequate muscle protein synthesis.  How else can you use it? Try adding it to smoothies; post-workout grain window oats or pancakes; chia pudding; and even to thicker soups.

Klean Omega

The first Klean omega-3 capsule I took made me love it!  The primary complaint regarding fish oil supplements are the taste, and the Klean product has a natural orange flavor that is subtle enough, and a nice change from the expected mild fish flavor.  Additionally, the most beneficial part of fish oil, the eicosapentaenoic acids (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acids (DHA) are present in high amounts delivering 750 g of quality marine based EPA/DHA in each capsule without the fishy taste. Aim to take with a meal or your recovery drink following a workout.

Omega 3’s have a host of benefits for the general population and athletes alike. 

  • A powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, omega 3’s have been shown to promote recovery from vigorous exercise and may even be helpful with oxygen delivery.
  • The DHA has long been found in baby formulas for it’s integral role in neurological development, and has been shown to improve reaction time in athletes and improve memory, and that can help us remember to take it!  
  • They are crucial for the body, and sometimes busy, on the go schedules do not support the opportunity to eat enough foods high in omega 3’s daily.

The developers of the Klean omega have an impressive pedigree with years of experience.  They understand what is important, and how to deliver.  I have yet to find another product to rival the Klean Omega!  We generally reccomend that athletes get in 2-3 grams daily of EPA/DHA.

Klean Recovery

Did you know that your recovery drink is the most important meal of the day for athletes? OK, it’s not really a “meal”, but you get my point J  Extensive stress can be placed on the body during training and racing.  This stress can induce muscle damage, an inflammation response, and possibly a compromised immune system. From a nutrition related stand point, the main goals for an athlete post training are the three R’s: replenish, rehydrate and repair.

  • Replenish glycogen stores with high glycemic (fast acting) carbohydrates
  • Repair muscles by facilitating protein synthesis with high quality lean protein.
  • Rehydrate with fluids and electrolytes
